2. Finish illustrating your 3 initials letter designs in b/w for class on Monday.

Design a Logo of Letters!

Companies of every kind sign their names with linked letters called ligatures. Ligature means to tie. Ligatures make excellent business signatures. They're handsome, simple, and compact. And they're fun, too-we all have initials! Some letters link in lowercase but not in upper. What follows are a variety of ways to get your letter pairs beautifully together.

1. Use shared strokes
2. Almost-identical strokes
3. Angled to vertical
4. Curved to vertical
5. Uppercase-lowercase
6. Horizontal crossbars
7. Mid-letter crossbars
8. Remove a stroke
9. Remove part of a stroke
10. Reverse the field
11. Crop!
12. Follow the white line
13. Disconnect and attach
14. Interlock
15. Overlay
16. Build bridges
17. Use transparency
18. Color the negative spaces

If your letterstrokes don't quite match...

• Try changing case
• Try a different font

Practical Quiz - Logo recreation

Abstracts/Specs:

Recreate an existing logo given by the instructor. Illustrate the logo from the grayscale template. Reproduce the logo as close to the original as possible. Remember to use correct colors and gradients for your work. Drop an .eps file into my drop box on the server before the end of class.
